Trailer Sites!

Unsurprisingly, the internet is a massive battleground for the latest movie trailer offerings to do battle for views, shares, likes, retweets and every other method of caring and sharing that was just not possible even 15 years ago.

Check out a couple of the following hit-heavy movie trailer websites:

http://trailers.apple.com/trailers/
http://www.traileraddict.com/
http://uk.movies.yahoo.com/trailers/
http://www.movie-list.com/
http://www.break.com/movie-trailers/

Tasks:

1. Perform a screenshot and stick into Blog. Give an overview of the website: What is it? What is its purpose? Does it have a specific targeted audience or more mainstream?

2. Pick three films that stick out to you as memorable and worth a second look and consider (in Blogging form) each of the these prompts:
*What is it about the film's promotional material that has attracted you?
*Using your vast Media Studies vocabulary, ahem, give an analysis - with reference to semiotics, connotations, as well as our old favourites for the trailer, shot types, sound, mise en scene and everything else you can throw at it - of the promotional materials on offer for the movie.

For example: On the apple link above, If I wanted to check out the upcoming Katy Perry movie (as you do) I would have to click on the cinematic style movie poster icon....

... which then takes me through to the page hosting the trailer. Note the themed poster-style banner. Another piece of promotional material cooked up, before I have even witnessed the trailer...

...when I am then able to access by clicking once more.

Note: More blockbuster trailers are being debuted on the Apple website than YouTube. As well as Apple's slickness and seemingly effortless cool in nearly everything ever, the latter website is often hard to gauge numbers as they can be disguised by multiple users uploading the trailer, which must infuritate marketing bods who just want to know how many people have clicked and viewed their pride and joy. Also, they want people to enjoy watching it and this is slightly more possible without the irritation of adverts we all know YouTube for.

Chance to earn a chocolate bar... First person to reply to this with the correct answer wins it:
WHAT IS THE MOST WATCHED TRAILER IN THE HISTORY OF ITUNES?
The followup to this, after you have done the above task:
Watch the aforementioned most watched clip on the net - why was this so watched? Consider the technological world in which we live; how has this played a part?
